Major Pop Up Issue

Hi,

My son uses his laptop for college, but over last couple of months he has been plagued by a major pop-up issue, which is essentially preventing him from using it. Using Google Chrome generates numerous pop-ups (some flashing messages saying the computer is at risk) which almost obscure the screen and a number of random new tabs open (asking you to complete surveys, competitions etc). We have not been without Norton AV for over three years and have installed Ad Aware. We have removed and reinstalled Chrome and gone through the normal pop-up removal procedure. We are at out wits end. Can anyone help?

Have you tried installing and running a full scan with Malwarebytes?
I asked the same question last night see here....

Malwarebytes worked for me.
Check your installed programs. When this happened to me it turned out to be a sneakily installed program from a download. It was clever as I'm pretty careful about these things.
A plain uninstall got rid of it and I haven't had any problems since. AdAware didn't spot it.
I meant Malwarebytes didn't spot it.
I too am being bombarded with pop-ups, mostly from a program called eDealsPop. I tried to uninstall eDealsPop but it is not in my list of installed programs.

I've run Malwarebytes and also Microsoft Security Essentials, but nothing is stopping these damned pop-ups. They are so annoying.

I Googled for help and found a website that suggested resetting Firefox to its original settings, so I tried that too, but the pop-ups just keep popping up.

Once more I am thinking of getting a little man in to sort my computer out for me.
Thanks very much for the link, Alice.

Don't know if it has worked for Mr Zippy - unfortunately I'm no further on with getting rid of eDealsPop. :o(

Ok, thanks for the replies and flagging up the other Q & As on this site. Will try Malwarebytes, but to be honest I have installed and uninstalled so many of these things to no avail. We have also stripped out all programs apart from the Word/Excel Suite and others required to open docs (adobe etc). Anyway, see how we get on.
Have you got Adblock and Adblock plus installed with Chrome?
