Bt Router Problem?

Hi, I'm using a six year old laptop, running XP and have no intention of changing for the moment.

I use BT for my broadband supplier and don't really have any complaints about them, either.

BUT. Just lately, every now and then my machine decides that it'll close the normal broadband connection and turn to using the free BT Fon one that you get as a BT customer. Much, much narrower band so, for example, the radio immediately closes down - also, I'd have to log in again to the Fon account. I can always get the normal broadband back immediately just by reconnecting.

Anybody and idea why this is happening? I really, really don't want to phone India.

There's possibly some intermittent interference on the channel that your router is trying to use. Try disabling the 'Smart Wireless' feature (if your BT Home Hub supports it) and manually choosing a channel:
