can it be hacked, as i have 56 messages as having been sent, none of which i have sent, they have come back as undelivered, hope that makes sense.

Yes, they can hack your email, as factor fiction states change your password. However, they have probably spoofed your email address onto a mass sending, so expect more undelivered emails. They have copied your email from elsewhere.

anyone know, as i don't know how someone can hack your e mail, if that is what it is.

i will have to find out how, as i have talktalk e mail, and don't remember the last time i looked into changing passwords.

damn nuisance, i have changed password, its a lot of faffing about, but its done, so i can expect more.
I know it's a pain but when this happened to me a couple of times I decided to open a new email account and I notified only my trusted contacts of the new address.

this hasn't happened before, so i listed all 55 e mails as spam then deleted the lot, a pain as you say
Unless people in your contacts list have been receiving spam from your address, your email account has almost NOT been hacked. It's far more likely that, as SlackAlice suggests, your email address has simply been 'borrowed' by spammers.
