Hi,
I have a samsung DVD-SH855M player/recorder. I have put scart to tv and player and also put tv aerial to the RF in but i get a blue screen which says no signal. As i am a 62 year old lady who i need easy instructions as i am not technically minded. My old player was only a player and it was scart to scart only, so i thought i would just have to connect new player same way.

many thanks for any help...

You have not made it clear what you have plugged the RF cable into - was it the TV or the DVD recorder?
If you have plugged it into the TV then the DVD recorder will have no signal; if you've plugged it into the DVD recorder the TV will have no signal, but you will get a picture on the TV if you ask it to "look" at the DVD recorder, so long as the DVD recorder is powered on.
The usual system is to connect the aerial to the DVD recorder and then use an extra lead, normally supplied with the DVD recorder, to connect an RF out on the DVD to the aerial socket on the TV.
If this lead was not supplied with your recorder you will need to get a male to female RF lead from the shop you bought the recorder from.

I aked at a shop and was told to put the tv aerial into the back of the player in RF in socket and the scart from tv to player, which i have done but get nothing only blue screen. Till i get passed this stage i cannot go into any settings. My tv is a technika with freeview and hd so i assume it is compatable.
Connecting it the way you are doing means that you can only get a conventional TV (Freeview) station via the DVD recorder. To do that you have to select (on your TV) the SCART input that the DVD is plugged into. (you may have more than 1 SCART socket on your TV, called eg, AV1, AV2 etc). To check that the connection is good, play a DVD - no picture, bad connection.

You then need to go into the DVD recorder setup menu and get it to tune in your Freeview stations. Once this is done you should be able to change station on the DVD recorder and the picture on the TV will change. The DVD recorder will need to be powered on all the time when you want to watch TV.

There should also be an RF out socket on the back of the DVD recorder. If you buy a male to female RF lead you will be able to connect the RF out socket on the DVD recorder to the aerial socket on your TV. You will then be able to watch TV completely independent of whether your DVD recorder is powered on or not.
If the DVD has freeview, then you do need to connect the aerial to it.

Then you would also need to connect the aerial from the DVD to the tv if it has freeview built in.

Then connect the DVD to the tv via scart - it gives a better picture than the aerial on playback. Use the scart socket that indicates "for tv"

Once connected the DVD can be found on the AV or Ext channel (depends what your tv calls it)

The DVD would then need to have its freeview tuned in.
