we have been with virgin for 4-6 years , we all use mostly internet in the house, we rarely use tv only for child when she watches peppa pig before she goes to school, we have unlimited internet, basic tv channels, phone line rental. ok the tv we do not watch, it is rubbish, we allready have a 52 " new samsung with built in freeview. we pay £46 per month for this crappy service !!!!!

now here is the question. i am going to call, virgin to cancel tv , i will ask them to give us internet only, if they cannot do this or the charge is too high then i will switch to a different internet only provider like talk talk. if we do switch off virgin or change to talk talk etc will we still get our notmal tv channels ? ie built in freeview and bbc1,2, itv, channel 4, channel 5 ? thankyou

You cannot blame Virgin for your 'crap' TV !
Blame the BBC,ITV, and all the other Channel providers as they are the ones deciding what they are going to Broadcast on any particular day.
We are with Virgin and we are quite satisfied generally speaking with all they provide.
Best of luck with that! Everyone I've ever known who's tried to change or cancel their Virgin subscription has had no end of grief.
My advice though is to persevere ...
and BN since you are starring in the thread - why were the police involved....
you may consider before you ring Virgin.....
putting on a less in-your-face manner.....

and then the Police wont come around again ... if you get my meaning.
You will still have Freeview dependent on your roof aerial reception, but do you have a phone landline?
Get your TV from a satellite, use the free to view channels, A decoder costs what you pay per month and a HD decoder is only twice that. You do not need a sky box or subscriptions to get thouasnds of channels.
^We live in SW France and can get all the FTA(free to air) UK channels uncluding all the regional channels absolutely free. Not many worth watching though. You will also be able to get continental FTA channels some of which are in English
Snap so is talk talk

we have a phone line. if virgin swith off alltogether will we lose all reception ? if so then we will need a roof ariel ? confusing. anyway here is the update, i have just called virgin ( call centre is a nightmare ) our monthly price is actually £36 a month that inc basic tv, phone line and unlimited 30 broadband speed , the virgin guy said that was a good speed and no other provider could beat it at that price. i told him we could not afford to pay that price just for broad band as tv was terrible anyway so he told me he would give me a new subscription - £27-99 for frst 6 mths then £32-99 for last 6 months on a 12 month new contract. does that sound fair ? i think so . we were on a month on month rolling contract. on hindsight i should of given them 30 days notice, told them we were switching to a new provider and seen what they could offer us ?

what do you guys think ?
If your tv is not connected to an aerial you are watching everything through Virgin. You will have to install an aerial to get freeview on your tv.

Have you got a BT landline for the phone? If not, you can't go to any other provider for phone, broadband or tv.

30GB is a good speed, and the price seems okay to me. Have you got Tivo?
Thinking about if, Virgin tv is great if you use their catchup and on demand services and have a Tivo.
You do not haveto install a satellite dish on your roof. If you have a place in your garden that has a clear view to the south east then you can put a dish on a pole stuck in the ground as we do.
I gave up on Virgin and switched (back) to BT. Get letter every week or so from Virgin now.
I couldn't switch to BT. The maximum internet speed they can give me is 3 MBpS.
Virgin give me 60
The greatest downside of moving to Norfolk was losing Virgin TV, we now have Sky. We had no problem with Virgin when we cancelled, and as we still have our mobile with them, the Norwich shop is very helpful. The grass is not always greener!
''Get letter every week or so from Virgin now.''
i've had a booklet/letter every week for a years now from virgin, you'd think they'd get the message wouldn't you?
