No Dial Tone Or Sound On Cordless Handset

My BT Synergy 3500 cordless handset has no dial tone or sound. The line is fine, I have plugged in another phone which works so it's definitely the handset. The ringer is turned up and it's registered to the base unit. When I ring the number, only the base unit rings and not the handset. Any ideas? Thanks.

Mine does that when the battery is running out on the handset. Trying changing the battery.

Agree with boxy, if it charges from the base unit give both sets of contacts a clean.

I'd also recommend replacing like for like for the batteries. I had the (brilliant?) idea of putting in replacements with a much higher mah rating to get a longer time off the bases and the whole caboodle failed shortly after.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have already restarted and changed batteries. Maybe it is time for a new handset?! I guess sometimes they just pack up for no obvious reason....
