Quite without warning my desktop shortcuts have stopped working-as has clicking on other icons on the desktop. I can get to some programs from "All programs" but it is a fiddly business. Anyone knows what the problem is?

Additionally, can you move/select the icons? There is a prank which involves taking a screenshot of the desktop, setting it as the wallpaper and then removing all the icons. Has anyone else used your computer recently?

No idea, but have you tried restarting the computer?
sometimes it can be caused by a virtual memory problem (physical ram) as a result of the lack of memory the hard drive is being used as a cache. Have you had any blue screens or lots of hard drive overworking/noise/light flashing a lot?
What message do you get when you double-click the icons?

Now that is a cracker Ed - I know a few people who would be well phased by that :+()
Try right clicking on an icon then select properties and check that the target is pointing to where the actual program is.

I don't get a message of any kind, and I can't move or select them, It's as if the desktop has died on me! Thanks for the interest, anyway.
