Pc Monitor Not Displaying Properly

Hi Folks

I’ve come to visit my mother and have discovered that the screen isn’t displaying as it should. Photos look as is the contrast has been turned right up, and most photos appear to have a purple hue. This is a screen shot of a pre-existing photo, so hoping that this screen dump will display the problem! - http://www.flickr.com/photos/38603329@N07/9392794994/

The monitor is a ViewSonic VA702. I have found an online manual for this (http://www.manualslib.com/manual/266505/Viewsonic-Va702.html?page=14#manual ) and have managed to correct the language (from Chinese or whatever it was!!) and have since found the process to adjust the contrast and the brightness.

When I adjust these, the brightness increases and decreases but the contrast adjustment just does the same (screen image appears brighter and darker). The contrast does not seem to alter at all.

All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

I can't see any purple hue in that photo. (It actually seems to have a rather nice copper hue to it). Further, what can be seen of the Windows Explorer display behind it looks fairly close to normal to me.

The English language manual for your monitor is here:

You might need to use the 'Color Adjust' feature.

This test card might help you:

You should be aiming to get both 'true black' and 'true white' displayed, while being able to see all of the numbers (from 0 to 10) on both of the numbered lines.

Remember that what you see on the monitor depends upon the graphics output from the computer. If the PC only has 'on board' graphics there's probably little that you can do about it but if it has a separate video card there should be controls provided to adjust the output. Try right-clicking on your desktop and selecting Properties > Settings > Advanced to see if any appropriate options appear (such as a 'Color' tab).

Or perhaps you just need to take your sunglasses off?
;-)
Can't say I see what is wrong with it. But if the controls are failing to produce a good picture then maybe time for a new monitor ?
I would find it difficult to even suggest that the your flickr photograph appears wrong on my screen.
