Powerpoint Text Auto Fitting

Hi. I am using PowerPoint 2000 (I know, my employer is behind the times!). I have cut and paste a few paragraphs from my Word document onto a slide in my presentation. The problem I have is that the words are auto spacing in the text box leaving large gaps occasionally between words in order that the text fits neatly into the text box. How can I stop this happening? Many thanks
