can anyone explain, help on this problem. Not sure it's the phone or provider. Any number of times my phone has stopped receiving calls, telling the person calling my number that the phone is off, or service unavailable. Even though the phone is on and working fine. So i missed a really important call yesterday because the person rang my mobile number and got that message, as number unobtainable, even though the phone is definitely on. This is the third time it's happened in the last couple of months, and don't know why, provider is orange and mobile samsung. Any idea of next step?

Em - apparently Orange have been encountering outages across the country in the last few days, where signals are temporarily disrupted, maybe this is the problem you have encountered.

Contact your provider and ask if they have any signal problems in your area, it may be that one of the antenna is damaged or faulty. It could also be the antenna in the phone and you may need a replacement.

thanks, the phone is a decent one, and not that old. Contacting Orange now that's a challenge.
Could it be because the phone was out of signal, was answerphone activated?
Question Author
shouldn't be out of signal, haven't got answerphone set up, mean to but doesn't it cost to retrieve your answer messages, this is a pay as you go phone.
I wonder if that could be the problem, yes it does cost to retrieve calls from answer phone.
Question Author
what could be the problem??
No answer phone, I'm really not sure though.

i have phoned Orange, got the customary ten different options, then automatic voice told me i would be charged a one off fee of 25p for being connected to their customer service, rip off, then told the office doesn't open till 8am, so that was nothing, so will have to repeat this whole idiocy after 8, and be charged again, this is daft.
Question Author
will go into one of their shops and ask,
When you missed these calls do you get a missed call alert?
Or do they show on your call log?
Question Author
not on call log, nor did they show as missed calls, but i was assured that they did phone, it was the surgery and the doctor told me the time of the call as they have a phone log system.
Question Author
and i was home when they called, so would have heard it had it rung...
Sounds like a network problem.

Somewhere in the phone there is a service centre number. If that`s wrong, you`ll get the problems you are getting. I used to be with Orange and they are a nightmare to get in touch with but if you speak to them, they might talk you through how to sort it out.
em10 Do you have any friends or neighbours that are on the same network, If yes check with them if they have had any problems.

My friend had problems with O2 they said it was his phone and he needed a new one. All the other people who lived near him including his local councillor were having problems. In the end they gave him an apology and some free credit.

em I think that is your best option, & don't leave the shop until it is sorted.

confess that i completely forgot and so will have to try tomorrow, biggest problem is that one doesn't know it's not working, the phone is on, you can make calls, but no one can call in, but totally unaware. what a pain.
do you have a landline? What happens if you call it yourself? Have you made a call on it in the last six months?
