Quick Ebay Question

Mr BM is just buying some stuff on ebay - its very heavy so he has phoned the seller. The seller wanted him to pay over the phone. Now its my card and I refused and says it has to go through Ebay.

Mr BM says it is still covered by Ebay (he ebays a lot whereas I just buy the odd bit of material or silver on there which I always do by the book). I say it isn't so that if there is a problem we have all manner of nonsense to sort out and we are on our own.

Now he has thrown a hissy fit because he can't buy now because there is no courier cost on there and he is insisting he phone the seller back and make the payment.

I think he is wrong wrong wrong. We don't have this seller's address just an ebay business and a mobile. Please someone back me up (if I am wrong, I shall buy them immediately and suffer my penance of "I told you so" with good grace).

And I cba to read Ebay's terms and conditions.

I wouldn't do that BM risky imo, use PayPal.

i meant ebay and paypal, Tony. I just see too many potential problems with doing it this way. He's given me the "Stop being a lawyer and tell me what I can't do" snippy comment.
I still think that it sounds risky, BM.

So do I tony!!!! This is why I am putting my foot down and saying it MUST go through ebay and paypal. He keeps telling me I am wrong. I'm never wrong........ ;) We are soon going to have a domestic.
definately go through ebay and paypal because if there any problems they will deal with it whereas if you dont if anything goes wrong you stand to lose your money
You are absolutely right BM. If the payment is not recorded through the ebay system then you will have no claim with ebay if anything happens.
You should certainly not give him your card details.
If the seller wants payment now over the phone then he must know what the courier costs are going to be and he could just as easily accept payment by paypal.
I buy on ebay quite a lot and have always followed the rules. On both occasions when I have had problems Ebay and/or Paypal have sorted it and I have not lost a penny.
Paypal or nothing

The key question is why does seller not want to use paypal???

this may be kosher but the 'don't like using paypal' is one of the main scams on ebay

^
and if there is a 'non receipt of goods' ebay will wash their hands of it!

Why should E bay cover it if you're by-passing their system?

Good point, Zeuhl.
Directly off ebay

If you pay for an ebay item any other way than paypal then you have no buyer protection.
