Was helping with my son's maths homework, which wasn't too hard:

5 + 5 + 9 +11 =

Turns out the answer is 30.

but maybe it isn't a maths problem, perhaps you need to look at letters and words to work out the answer. Either way the answer is 30.

eh?
Is that the type of problem you'd find in a GCSE maths paper these days?
Something strange here...
What on earth are you on about? Please elaborate.
Going by previous posts it looks as if he/she is using AB as a little messenger service for him/her and his/her mates,
I wonder if the problem should actually read FIVE
+FIVE
+NINE
+ELEVEN
----------
=THIRTY
and you have to find the value of the letters?
I thought that at first bev888 but there are 11 letters (FIVENLTHRTY) to represent 10 digits.
oh god is this that geocaching broccoli?
Sorry Baldric, completely missed your link.
gen2 - you've counted T twice.
so I have, but you beat me to the answer anyway canary.
I still don't get the bit about "The co-ords of the cache is N53 17.6LT W001 07.8YR"
i still really absolutely cannot understand geocaching - anyone want to briefly describe it to me?
This was maths homework though wasn't it, bednobs, rather than a geocaching puzzle
in other words, you don't understand geocaching either factor ;)
Looking at all the threads on here from RedDevil has put me off geocaching - they seem so complicated and vague. Although I'm numerate crosswords are much more up my street
