Restoring Factory Settings On Macbook Air

Hi, I am selling my MacBook Air. It was recently updated to Mountain Lion, but what I want to know is, if I restore it to 'factory settings', will the operating system still be Mountain Lion or will it revert back to whatever it was before? Also, when I bought the MacBook, second hand, I had all the start up and registering options, which I imagine, would be the same as if I had just purchased it new from the shop - will this be the same for my buyer? Thanks.

Why would you want to do that. Mac is such a superior operating system that nothing could ever go wrong.

So they say anyway.
I just recently bought an iPod touch 4th generation of eBay 2nd hand. It was reset to factory settings. It was exactly the same was like turning on a new machine. (I also have an ipad2). The only difference was the software was out of date. It gave me the message to connect to wifi and update. I did this and it is an ideal little gadget for what I want it for. I would guess you MacBook Air will be the same.
Hope this helps!!

Thanks CoffeeLounge. Beso, if you don't have anything useful to add, I'd rather you said nothing at all. Unless you're Steve Jobs speaking from beyond the grave. In which case, cool.
If you're selling it I'd recommend you do a complete clean erase/reinstall of whatever OS you have the discs for.

Hi Snags. So I'm assuming it'll revert back to Lion or whatever it was before I upgraded. But I can then upgrade it to Mountain Lion again, and it'll still do all that stuff it should for the new owner, appear as a 'new' computer?
''I'm assuming it'll revert back to Lion or whatever it was before I upgraded.''

Yes. Whatever OS is on the install discs.

''I can then upgrade it to Mountain Lion again''

If you did before, then yes.
