I managed to record the second half of a programme on RTE on Sunday night but wanted to see it all on RTE player. I was told it was not available in my area. Can anyone enlighten me about why this should be, as it was transmitted to here (NI)?

Isn't RTE Spanish, in which case not available in your are unless you download for free Expat shield.

Thanks mamy.
It's still not available, but I have no idea why. The programme was called 'Behind the walls' and is in two parts, the next on Sunday. I'll record it.
Thanks again
Anne....could it be because you are in NI rather than the Republic of Ireland? We are in the republic and get all the BBC & ITV programmes, but when I try the BBC player it tells me 'not available in this region'. It's something to do with licence agreements. Though strangely, we can use 4OD (though not for everything).

Thanks for the suggestion. RTE seems to show a very limited selection on player, so I could watch all the programmes I don't want to see and not those I do.
Did you see it, by any chance?
Dreadful, just dreadful.
i'm in ni too annemollie.i tried that programme just now on my laptop and it played first time.we are with virgin media,so maybe it depends on who your supplier is?

No luck with the transmission on the lappy or the iPad. Maybe it depends on the transmitter. It's very frustrating, but thanks for your answer.
Maybe, but just maybe, they don't want too many people to see it!!!
RTÉ only has the broadcasting rights to transmit programmes within the Republic. Obviously it can't stop radio waves from crossing the border into NI but it's legally obliged to block such online content to web users whose IP addresses show that they're outside of the Republic.

Similarly you can't watch most BBC iPlayer content when you're outside of the UK.

Bueno, Buenchico.
I understand now, but I can still view some of their programmes online via RTE player - nothing interesting, though.
Thanks a lot.
I am in Northern Ireland and I can get RTE1 and RTE2, but if there is a fault and
I telephone Virgin/Media, they tell me "Its a radio station and not TV" and then
someone eventually comes through and tell me "oops you get it because you
are paying for extra stations that you cannot receive" confused! yes so am I.
I pay them £65 per month and that does NOT include telephone calls.
