They most certainly would! There are also organisations which recondition old computers and send them to the third world. This is a good thing, and you should do it, IMO.

Depends on how old it is. What type of processor(CPU) does it have?
Wiped my Mac desktop clean and gave it to a children's home. They were delighted. The kids all download music from it. And they sent me a lovely box of chocolates and a card as a thank you. Bless them.
Remove the hard drive (and take a hammer to it before throwing away) before donating your old PC.
Just make sure you clear the hard drive of your personal information.
You can put the hard disk into your new computer assuming that the new one is not a laptop. If it is, you can get external housing for it.
Info can be recovered from a hard drive even if it is wiped clean. You are better off not donating the hard drive at all.
I took the hard drive out of my ancient computer and put it into a caddy thus making a cheapo external hard drive. I formatted it and gave it to my daughter to store all her photographs on.
(I too got a box of chocolates!)
Daffy is right - I got one of my computers from the local roup.

Within minutes of starting up I had recovered its previous contents - including a password file!

I dually reformatted it with specialist software.
What do people store on their computers????? I can understand a business computer having sensitive info on it but why are so many people hysterical about the content of their old HDD? There are several free programs to give it a clean wipe if you want to, no need to take a hammer to a perfectly good hard drive.
