I have just bought a digital set-top receiver. I have tried Auto Scan, Manual Scan & Area Scan but it doesn't seem to be picking up any channels.
Any ideas as to what the problem might be or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. I'm a bit of a novice at this sort of thing.

Is there no manual or instructions with the unit?
Is it connected correctly?
Are there signals available for it to pick up?
Is it a freeview box (that needs an aerial) or a Freesat box (that needs a dish)?

If it is freeview have you got a strong outdoor aerial and is it plugged in?

If freesat is it connected to the satellite dish?
Can you tell us the make and model you have bought?
Assuming it isn't broken, a poor signal seems most likely. Check aerial connections.
Whereabouts in the country are you?
Someone will be able to locate your nearest transmitter.
Assuming its freeview and you know your local transmitter name, go to this site

http://www.unsatisfac...are.co.uk/dtt/dtt.cgi

Choose your transmitter and you will get the list relevant to you.

You will see that there are different MUXs

If you are adjusting your aerial, it is useful to know a channel for each Mux - digital signals are more fussy than analogue - so if your aerial is not spot on you may not get all muxs or signal breakup.

Also, again assuming its Freeview, if you only have it connecte via the aerial the it may not actually output a signal via aerial.

You should have it wired as

aerial in to the box and then the box to tv/video via scart or hdmi cable
