Is there a way to transfer my tunes from the ipod to the pc? Previously I haven't had the hard disk space to have a library on the pc but now I have, so I want to have all the tunes on the pc so I can use auto sync. If I do that now, it will simply erase evreything from the ipod itself! Any ideas please....

There is. What you first want to do is probably delete the ipod software from your computer. What will happen is that when the ipod is connected, the computer will treat it like a hard disk. If the ipod software is installed, then autosync will start and screw you over. Instead of uninstalling the ipod software, you could try ending the iPodService.exe program from the processes list on task manager. If it all goes wrong and autosync starts, this page can help you out.

Lastly, the music you want is in a hidden folder on your ipod. I can't remember the name of it, but it's really easy to find.

You can also use some 3rd party software like iPodAgent - http://www.ipodsoft.com/index.php?/software/ipodagent
easiest program i've found is ephpod:

http://www.ephpod.com/

does exactly what you want. very easy to use. also has some other handy features.
Go to the iTunes>Preferences>iPod screen and uncheck the "Automatically update all songs and playlists" option.
The reason that you have to use third party software to transfer songs from the iPod to the computer is because Apple wrote the software to prevent you doing it to keep the music industry happy on copyright issues.
