"Mobile Network Not Avaiable"?

I've just bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace handset (unlocked) and have put in my T-Mobile SIM card, and set it up per instructions, it seems fine, except that if I try to phone or text anyone it comes up with "Mobile Network Not Available". I was late paying my last bill, and I did get my services restricted, but I paid off the total last week, and my balance is coming up as £0.00 online.
Can anyone sugges tanything else that it might be please? It's not the T-Mobile network - my OH's phone is working fine. Thanks very much.
