I'm probabbly gonna put this down to experience as a 'bug' in Word BUT.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with Word in Office XP ?

When a document is saved in word XP and later opened, the text has been converted to squares and symbols.

No I haven't set the font to windings or dingbats or whatever and yes I have tried everything like uninstalling-re-installing Office XP and the putting a new lot of fonts onto the computer.

I've even tried swapping the computer to a different one with same software (extreme yes I know) and I still get the problem happening.

no help at all but my old windows 95 computer had a problem of txt being changed to squares, wasnt sure why it did it and i found that rebooting and trying it again mostly helped it change back to what it need to be
When you save the Doc ensure it's save as Word Document....Sounds like your saving as the wrong format...as easy as that.
As adydb said, make sure you save it as a word doc.I quite often do the same thing in Excel, it took me ages to work out that II was accidently saving files as text files, even though the file icons showed the Excel icon.

Nope, still no luck I've tried all that before, the word document is saved as a word document and then closed and re-opended and it's fine, then some time later on when it's opened it's corrupted.
