You need a new card reader. SD readers only work up to 4gb and won't work with SDHC high capacity cards.
If your computer is running vista, then this may be a problem, if you have only SP-1 installed, then this should fix it. If not come back & we'll check again. :-)

Vista didn't support SDHC out the box, although if you've kept it up to date it should.

You could install the update that enables SDHC support
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825/

But you'd be better off just doing the windows update a few times (until there are no more updates available) because then at least you'd know all of your system is up to date.
Oops. Overlooked that the reader was in your base unit and not a separate card reader. Nibble may well be right.

will give the updates a try and get back to you, thanks
It makes no difference if the reader is in the base unit or not, they are all USB readers regardless.

If the reader is SD only then the updates won't help and it will never support SDHC and as heathfield says your only option is then to get another card reader (either an external one, or a replacement internal one)

If the reader is SDHC compatible then installing the updates should make it work with SDHC cards.

As we have no idea if the reader will support SDHC then the only option is to install the updates and see if that works.

(as a side note, if you've not got an update on your computer that was released in 2007 you will also be missing loads of important security updates on your computer, you really should be keeping your system up to date with it's windows updates)
