WE've recently changed for Sky to BT Vision as we are out a lot and were mainly watching recorded programmes and find the BT Vision works better for us and is about 40 pounds a month cheaper, But why can't we get the BBC freeview HD channels? - is it we are perhaps in the wrong area? The TV is brand new and HD ready?

We have BT vision and don't get the BBC freeview HD channels ( West Midlands ) if that is any help to you.
Unless your TV is fitted with out the right tiner(DVB2,i think) you cannot receive HD Channels. most TV's aren't fitted with these at the moment. I know this because my son just bought a new TV for his bedroom and he bought and HD digibox to allow him to watch HD channels. The correct tuner will be fitted to Tv's from this year onwards i was told by our local dealer. Hope this helps
We don't get them through BT vision either. Always just assumed they weren't available with it.
Freeview HD televisions are already available, but sounds like you didn't get one. This John Lewis link explains it all.

...as you can see, "HD ready" doesn't mean that much.....

We were getting all the HD channels when we were with Sky -is this different (sorry totally technophobic)

thanks for the link gingejbee which I clicked on after I posted the question about Sky - looks like our area has not yet 'switched' to Freeview HD - one of the problems with living in the sticks.
If you live in the sticks I doubt your phone line could support HD streaming anyway.

oh thanks for that matt ;-) - I can watch HD films through 'on demand' but I usually fully download to watch later. This maybe is another question within a question but would it be better to record and watch an HD programme later rather than watching it 'live'?
