I have got recently involved into a serious music project, so it is required for me to get a really good audio editor that will let me compose tracks professionally at home since we cannot afford a studio yet. The more features and tools it has, the better it is, at the same time I still want it to be optimized for high speed performance so that I can work with it time-effectively. Is there still a possibility to get such software for free?

'Reaper' has been recommended quite often, you can download it for free, it seems to have more bells and whistles than I would ever need.
Ditto 'audacity'
