log on to a network
You might be able to use regedit. Go to Start, Run, type in regedit and click OK. Try deleting random things from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE by right clicking and selecting delete. Reboot. Repeat until desired effect is reached.

would they be able to tell I had done that?

Save everything you want somewhere else and just clean the whole thing out. Get a DOS window and type Format C: . Your PC guys will be forced to reinstall what you need for your job.

A corrupt registry would be nothing new. A formatted hard drive might be a little suspicious. Unless you microwave it first.
Check on the back and switch the power supply from 240V to 130V then power it on. It will blow the PSU but may also blow the mainboard (a work colleague of mine did it and it was very impressive).
I always use a nicely placed cup of coffe on all of my appliances i want to break, So easy to spill.
Go to your local computer store, and buy a copy of some software called 'Windows' by a company called, I think, Microshaft or something like that. Anyway, install it on your machine, and it goes to work pretty quickly, your machine will develop random faults about once a day for no apparent reason, which should get you a new machine.
What exactly is wrong with your PC? Wouldn't it be easier to try to fix it yourself?

If caught trying to break the PC you might get disciplined so as much as it sounds like a good idea now, you'd undoubtedly regret it if caught.

thats the problem, i dont know what wrong with it and i dont know enough about computers to fix it. They know it is probably past its sell by date, they just dont want to do anyting about it. MargeB, i would try that but there are restrictions on the network so i need permission to install anything. dont think they would say yes to that one
Break the pins in all the connectors at the back of the machine. Then they'll have to replace the motherboard, so they'll probably just get a whole new box.
boot it up in the normal way.Once done switch off,not close it down.Leave for 2 mins and keep repeating the proceedure. Some thing must give.Or just don't do any work tell the boss the problem (that it stopping you working) let them sort it out.
