My laptop has plenty of USB outputs but no HDMI. I would like to be able to display BBC iPlayer output onto a much larger Sony 1080p LCD TV screen.
There seem to be a small number of converter kits being advertised that does this. Does anyone have any specific recommendations for these, or clever alternative ways of achieving this, please?

They are not really USB to HDMI converters (that would be impossible).
What they actually are is external video adaptors which connect to a USB port.
Kind give you specific advice on a model to choose, but do make sure that it includes audio, like this one from Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/7ods2qw
(I'm not recommending this, merely citing it as the kind of thing you should be looking for).
"Kind"???
