I have just downloaded Skype on to my PAYG HTC Wildfire.

Possibly a silly question but is it entirely free to make Skype calls from this phone or will I be charged for net usage?

If so, which is cheaper? (with Vodafone)

Thanks.

I have used Skype for donkeys years since it was first introduced and enjoy the video contact with my world wide scattering of grandkids,,,,,free of course but as far as I know you have to put money into an account to use the phone....much the same as any phone.....could be wrong but pretty sure on that as they sometimes try to get me to use this option and it seems to involve payment -----

To get the best from the video calls your phone would need a front camera as well as the usual one or you have to use a mirror to see each other....ipod touch works because it does have two cameras but does your phone.
Basically you're asking us "what are the terms of my PAYG account" and I'm afraid none of us can answer that.

I get 500MB free over a 1month period from a £10 top up and then it costs a maximum of £1 a day once the 500MB or the 1month is up and skype calls would fall within those. You'll have to check what you get with your top ups.
......Skype to Skype phone calls are totally free but you have to buy Skype credit to call other phones.

You have to pay your ISP to get internet access of course.....but say from free wifi spots, Skype to Skype are totally free and they take the cost to land lines etc, from your Skype credit account.

This should make it clear http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/home
If you are using the Skype App over your WiFi network to other Skype users then it is free. I am pretty sure if you want to use Skype over your 3G (Mobile Phone Network) then you have to pay Skype and you will also use your Data Allowance. If you are using Video this could be consumed quite quickly.

Thanks all. All I know is that I am with Vodafone and pay money to top-up every now and then!
