While I am happy typing here - can any of you advise about these kindles. I am hoping to invest in one for Christmas in hoping of advancing and taking an interest in my reading again. Thanks once again.

i have one its well used best thing i bought
I received one for my birthday a few months ago and I love it!!
I've just spent a happy hour on Amazon, choosing a new selection to download - it's all so easy and there are a lot of free books to choose from (some are not very good but you can just delete them).
I would definitely recommend it.
Happy reading!
Could somebody please advise me on a question that came up in a quiz last night it said "if you had an area of 5 metres long X 5 metres wide X 50mm deep what volume of ready mix concrete would you need to cover it" can anyone work this out & what is the formula for doing it?
Sorry about the above post it should have gone into chatterbank
I'm going to get one but I'm waiting for the kindle Fire to become available in the UK. That probably wont happen till Feb/Mar :o((((

I have read all the answers in the other posting but I am confessing I am a little confused re 3g and wifi - and keyboard. I just want to download the book from my pc and read it and be able to enlarge the text - just the basics. Thank you.
I got a kindle for my birthday last month and its brilliant, but, which amazed me, it doesnt have a backlight, so as soon as it starts to get dark I canr read on it. Maybe the very latest ones do now have it but this is only 4 weeks old and doesnt.
Hi, you only need 3G if you want to be able to use the internet on it [to buy books....it's useless as a web browser unless you are in dire need], you do need to have WiFi to get the books on to it though, either at home or have access to it.
You can enlarge the text to various sizes too. It really is very simple to use and I love mine....have read about 30 books in the last 8 months on mine.
The keyboard is small but again you don't really need to use it, I order all my book on line at Amazon and they pop up on your kindle within minutes!

I bought one for my missus for her birthday in September - there is no backlight because that makes it difficult to read outside inthe sun!! I bought her a case with a light in it - a tad expensive but you can get cheaper clip on lights!
charlieuniform - how much was the case with the light in it?
£50 but its worth it and does not drain the battery that much
