my wife often gets calls during the day from some foreign call centre trying to convince her theres a problem with the PC, luckily she just hangs up. When i had a day off last week i took one of these calls, they actually said my ISP had contacted them to say my PC was running slow and to get in contact with me (at this point i should of asked her who my ISP was)!! I just told them i was in IT and she was talking out of her a*se, she hung up.....
I wish i had let the call run just to see where it was going & what the scam was , anyone got any ideas ?

They'll ask you to go to a website and click on a link that will allow them to remotely access your PC to "fix" it then when they have access install some software.

The purpose of the software varies but possibles are to try and get things like bank/credit card details or just to make your computer part of a bot-net that would be sending spam emails out for them.
One or both of the following:
They ask you to give them access to your PC. They then can potentially access secure info
They ask for money/card details for solving the problem.

thought that would be the case...

Your ISP wouldn't know if your PC was running slowly unless you had queried your internet connection/speed with their tech team, I suppose this is just to make the less savvy PC users more comfortable with their approach.
I sort of wish they would try this scam on me, I could have so much fun with it :)

I wonder if it would be possible to upload a virus to their system whilst they are connected to mine.?

I had one of those Nigerian scam emails about 2 years ago. They had kept emailing. I replied multiple times attaching large image files. Never heard from them again.

As for your call Chas, I have dealt with a company like that in the past. I knew what they were about and proceeded to waste their time for 20 minutes asking pointless questions.

I used to get these calls to say my satellite box was out of insurance or ask me to take a survey, from most Asian speaking salespeople.

I used to say '' Yes no problem '' but could you just wait while I finish off making love/sex to my wife, then I make grunting and sexual noises through the phone.
They usually never phone again!!!!!!

dont worry i have been around long enough to spot a scam...
i have fun with them. some calls can last up to 20 mins before they are heard asking their supervisor if they can cut the call lol

they are getting wise now, still calling, but yesterdays call only lasted 6 mins before they gave up. Id rather waste my time than have them conning someone elsewhere out of money.
