Hi
Not very clever with computers.
My neighbour has given me permisssion to use her wifi and given me the password. It works fine on my daughters laptop but not on my PC
I have an icon on the taskbar saying i am connected and signal strength is good but am unable to load any web pages.
Any suggestions as to what i need to do please :)

you may be just out of range of her router to download pages
get your own wifi
I didn't think this was allowed?
Why wouldn't it be allowed? It's paid for and 100 people in the house could use it - so why not a friendly neighbour?
Why wouldn't it be allowed ? It's their WiFi, they can give the password to whomever they wish. But the neighbours may have some explaining to so though, when denise downloads all that illegal stuff from pirate bay ;-)
Have you entered the wifi password?

"I didn't think this was allowed?"
Of course it's allowed, with the owner's permission.
Check that your browser is not set to 'work offline'.
okkkkayyy
Wolf, just had never heard of using a neighbours wi-fi before
thanks :-)
It's done all the time Bobbi............ with, or without permission ;o)

Denise.......... on earlier Internet Explores, there's a checkbox "Work Offline". That was always getting checked when you didn't want it to.
It's not allowed. EVERY bb company states in their t&cs that the broadband is only for the use of the household.
Maybe my friend using the pub over the roads wi-fi is slightly dodgy though - not sure! ;-)
Is it really an issue if it's allowed? The company are never going to know.
ok, silly question but is your PC wireless? my desktop is not but my laptop is
they do that so they can make money hc, its not illegal if they give their permission.
I didn't say it's illegal. I said it's not allowed according to the terms and conditions of the contract.

Bear in mind too that if you permit other people to use your internet YOU will face criminal charges if that person does anything illegal on the internet, such as access child porn or send threatening messages.

Most BB providers have fair use policies and will throttle the BB connection if it is used in a way they consider excessive.
hc4361 - don't you think you are sensationalising this whole scenario? I'm sure that denise knows her neighbour well and will not be downloading illegal pornography or threatening people.
I'm not being sensational.
I'm saying why it is not a good idea to allow others to use your internet in general, in response to previous posts.
I genuinely asked whether it was legal or not as I hadn't a clue

yes i have entered password.
am in chrome so don't know about working offline! :)
im in a flat and she is above me so signal is fine
will try elsewhere, thanks anyway
If you share her wifi surely you are sharing her 'network' and will be able to see her private files (I wouldn't like that)
