I keep getting the above on my lappy.

Is it something dodgy?

So far I've just been clicking "Cancel"

DO I accept it, or no?

It's not dodgy. but most people don't need java installed at all.

Personally I'd say remove it from programs and features, if you suddenly find something doesn't work then you can always reinstall it.

If you do update it make sure you untick the install yahoo toolbar option during the update.
There's a new version (#26 I think) which is supposed to be more secure. I have accepted it and advise you to do the same.

What does it actually do, then ??
Chuck,
When I didn't have it I found it didn't take long before I needed it to make something work.
It's a programming language. you only need it installed if you are using something on your computer that is written in java. openoffice is probably the best known thing that is written in java (I need it for a music player I use) but if you don't use anything written in java then it's not needed.

It shouldn't be confused with javascript which is part of your browser and used on websites.

If you remove it and you find something doesn't work it will say it needs java and it's a 5minute job to reinstall it.
