Hi, I bet this question has already been done to death but here goes.

I like to read in bed long after my husband. I sort of fancy a Kindle.

Is it bright enough for me to see the words without the bedside light on?

Can I alter the text size like I can on my laptop. My eyes are getting dim in my old age...as is my brain lol.

Opinions welcome please

no, it is not lit at all
yes
get one
You can get a cover with a light. I have the same problems with my eyes and I find it very useful being able to adjust the font.

If it isn't lite then it defeats the purpose for me. I was under the impression there was some sort of "back light"?

O thankyou Euphemia. That must be what I meant.

Excellant. Looks like Amazon have another customer.

You'll want a tablet with with the kindle application installed if you want a backlight.

Though having a back light will reduce battery life from weeks/months to hours.
You will love it!

Lol whiskeryron that could be the cheap option couldn't it.

I am a bad sleeper and would enjoy reading until I was ready to sleep some more, but don't want to keep my husband awake with a light on.

Thanks for the replies everyon.

The screen works completely differently to a monitor and doesn't need power to hold what's on the display, just to change what's on the display (i.e. when you turn the page). This makes for a fantastic device that you can read in bright sunlight and for long periods without eye strain. It's much more like reading a book than a computer screen. Get one ...

Thanks for your help.....I have ordered this to go with my Kindle.

A friend has it and assures me it is perfect to read by.

Still not sure I wouln't rather hold a proper book but that defeats the object for me.
