I tend to leave my PC on all the time, occaisionally re-starting it. Is this OK ? or is it best to shut it down when i've finished using it ?

If you are going and coming back to it, then leave it on, mine stays on all day, but I don't use it all day.

Mine is permanently on too.
put it in hibernation---this saves a good bit of electricity

i have also read that switching on and off puts a strain on the joints  I wonder if there is any truth in this

Since going on broadband I also assumed it was ok to leave on permanently day and night - but we have enough power cuts to give it a rest anyway.
If you leave it on for over a day, depending on the fan the comp can start to slow wayyy down. I always shut mine down, keeps it fresh. Rich

With the correct cooling a computer can stay on 24/7 365.  It is true that if it does get too warm it can slow down but as long as its in a well ventilated area and has a good circulation of air around it then there is no problems with it being on.

Its also true that starting and closing down can have a negative effect on a pc.  More hdd alone die at this stage, more gfx cards blow at this stage and more power packs refuse to start at this stage.
