open office, because i asked about a cheaper alternative to word, so i spent an hour or so downloading it. its been great. but recently its been giving me problems in regards to using it to send attachments. i´ve tried 3 times recently to send attachments, but the people at the receiving end havent been able to open the documents!!
i innocently suggested that 1 of them ( a potential employer) download it himself, this might solve the problem. but i cant do this all the time.
any suggestions?

You have to set it to save in Microsoft office format.

I think that you need to save it in a format that can be opened by people with Word, the same goes for if you have the new version of words as opposed to the 97 version. Try this link for more help http://blog.taragana....ts-as-doc-by-default/
You can also save Open Office documents as pdf files. Anyone can open these documents, all they need is Acrobat Reader (free download). The recipient does not even need Open Office or Microsoft Office to read them. Note that these are read only files and cannot be updated.

hi TTG, according to reviews, acrobat reader is a bug ridden peice of rubbish, which creates problems instead solving them.
whats your opinion?
Apologies I couldn't have been more help! Would it be an option to copy and paste the text directly into the email? If not hope you manage to resolve the problem!

i am grateful for your help sophie, will look at the cut and paste option later.

sorry sophie, but i am a little backward when it comes to computers. could you give me an idea how i go about copying and pasting the openoffice document and then to email

piggy
Don't think I made myself clear, I just meant copy and paste whatever text is in the document to the email by highlighting it, right click, copy then in the main body of the email right click again then click. Obviosuly it depends what you're trying to send whether this will be appropriate or not.
