Is this mobile broadband? Some providers don't let you use Skype, so be sure you can before you buy.

This should help:

after reading posts today about the 3 dongle

id be wary about getting tied into a contract with them or anyone else

Cant use 3 as the reception is usless here.
be careful and check whatever company online first

many folk on 3 in strong signal areas getting no coverage

companies can be less than honest it seems

when it comes to broadband dongles

Thanks for the link Ethel. It seems if you have a large contact list it makes a difference. The laptop is for my daughter really so she can talk to her boyfriend when he goes to Afganistan and the end of the year. :-( I think she only talks to him with skype so she'll have a contact list of one.
If your daughter has access to standard broadband that would be best by far.

Mobile internet is great for occasional use when you cannot connect any other way.

Yeah the trouble is she has moved into a flat and there is no phone line for broadband. She isnt planning on getting one because she uses her mobile for calls. She just wants Skype so she can see her bf too.
if shes using the video i dunno how well it will work on the dongle

maybe ethel does

i use skype lots but with adsl

is it possible to get a landline as adsl can be very cheap thru a landline.
If you can get the speed you can use a webcam with no problem at all on an internet dongle.

Vodafone 7.2 mbps is certainly fast enough, and Vodafone don't block Skype, unlike several others.

Check the coverage before you buy, and buy online so you can send it back within a few days if you can't get a signal.

Thanks for all the good info people. Dont think its viable to get a landline in though. The deal we were looking at was on the high street with a 14 day cooling off period. Will check if they block skype. Thanks all.
