Why when one puts quotation marks either side of a word or words, (when one posts a question on answer bank) , does it place " instead of the quotation marks?

Sorry Octavius
It should have (read ") before the words instead of quotation marks.
But I think the site automatically deleted these, hope it now works.
I think I know what you're saying: I've noticed that sometimes '& quot' shows before & after what someone has put in quotation marks. Isn't it just typical that when you ask about it the fault it doesn't happen!
It's never happened to me - probably lucky - but I do tend to use the apostrophe instead of quote marks to be on the safe side.
