I haven't had a cold, cough etc for years and have been following the rules as far as the pandemic is concerned, but yesterday I had a dental appointment, the first one in years and last night I could feel a tickle in my throat then this morning my throat is really sore, I keep going hot, and my head is banging.
The last people I saw was last Sunday when my 2 young granddaughters were round.
One had a chest infection, the other a bad cold.
Does it take days for a cold/virus to develop, or is it possible I could have picked it up yesterday?

You can develop cold symptoms around 3 days after exposure, probably picked up something from your Granddaughters.
A cold doesn't take long to develop - Sunday a very likely source.
With the information 5hat you have given it is almost certain that you contracted your infection from the dental trip.

So you don't think I could have got it from my visit to the dentist yesterday?
I've had a fear of going to the dentist in case I pick something up and then I got this, and I start to worry about the hygiene at the dentist and worried about going back for my next appointment.
What have I just posted Barsel?
Question Author
Crossed post Sqad. So you think I could have got it from my trip to the dentist?
You can catch a cold anywhere, if we let that fear rule our lives then we're sunk.

Far more likely to have come via the children.
LOL........
Your symptoms are typical of a rhinovirus where symptoms can begin 12 hours after contact.
Bottom line.......does it matter ?
Question Author
Does it matter? Well only in as much as I will fear going for my next appointment as I hate feeling unwell. In the past I have often got a cold sore after a trip to the dentist but never felt the way I feel today. I don't mind the feeling of a cold, it's this banging headache I have with it for which I'm taking paracetamol.
have the grandchildren had CV tests? Are you going to?
Apparently symptoms of a cold/virus show up 2 to 3 days after you’ve become infected.
Like mamy, my best guess is you picked it up from your grandchildren, not the dentists.
However, I’m not a doctor so perchance Sqad knows better ;)
The symptoms of a Rhinovirus ( sore throat, headache, temperature and runny nose) may occur after 12 hours of contact and certainly within 24 hours.

Again I say........does it matter ?
Get a covid test
Question Author
I'm not sure if the grandchildren have had covid tests, I'll have to ask my daughter.
How would I get one?
I think I'd only do it if I feel worse.
Question Author
Sqad, I answered your question @15.06
You either call119 or go on the website to book a test
My guess is granddaughters. As well as knowing they had it- you can pass on a cold before you even have symptoms. Seems more likely.
Different symptoms from covid.
arew we drowning in a sea of snot?

Symptoms of a common cold usually appear one to three days after exposure to a cold-causing virus. Signs and symptoms, which can vary from person to person, might include: Runny or stuffy nose.

in short - next day is a go-er as Sqad said and no one listened
It wasn’t the next day though, it was later on the same day as the dentist.
