forgot to say i only use the internet for surfing and some internet banking

You should have some form of Anti virus. One never really JUST uses the Internet. Once connected you are vulnerable, once you visit pages and especially if you download stuff, or receive e-mails even, then the risk rises.

Whether you renew or try something different is up to you.

You do need Anti Virus but there are some very good free versions available. Read this article from this weeks Moneysavingexpert.
