Lost 3G

I have an HTC Hero phone. When I upgraded my contract with T-Mobile I was able to receive 3G, then it disappeared and I can get it back. I've been onto T-Mobile for 2 hours going through all the settings, but it just won't work. It seems the Mobile Network setting just won't connect to the internet - has anyone any idea what the problem maybe?
