I'm not currently using Thunderbird but the layout is basically the same as Outlook Express and (as far as I can tell from a quick bit of googling) the techniques are exactly the same:

In the list of email messages, right-click and select 'Move to Folder'
OR
If you've opened the email message, go to File > Move to Folder.

Chris
...or Just drag the message from the right hand pane to the folder that you want in the left hand pane.

Thanks for yr hekp guys. As a fomer Windows Mail user, I'm not getting on at all well.

Dragging msg after a rt click from rt. to left hand pane failed to work.

Selecting msg to move to folder lost track of the msg as nothing was displayed to show where my choice was to go.

However I have another more pressing problme which has just emerged.
I used to have under Local Folder a list of c. 12 Folders, all named. They have disappeared.
Quite how a Local Folder appeared as a sub Folder to one of these I cannot explain but I'm vey new to Thunderbird and don't find it much like OE at all!

Any suggestions as to where my missing Folders might be? (Would Compacting have had anything to do with it?

Fortunately they are still on my former computer in Windows Mail.

Also in attempting to make the tiny font size more readable I have now made some panels too large vertically and it is hard to get at the bottom to click on OK.

I hate to ask, but ;time to get a man in'?
Id there a '+' button next to where it says 'Local folders'? If so, click on it to reveal the sub-folders.

Panels can normally be resized (in any relevant program) by placing the cursor over the edge (so that it changes to a double-headed arrow) and then clicking and dragging.

>>>Dragging msg after a rt click from rt. to left hand pane failed to work
Well do it my way (as above then)! Right-click and select 'Move to' Folder, then double-click on the name of the relevant folder. (As above, you might need to click on a '+' button to display sub-folders).

Dragging is performed using a left click.

Thanks for help. Getting on better today. My temporarily absent guru suggests trying the inbuilt Windows Live Mail.
Give it a go???
Personally I find the Thunderbird interface much simpler to work with than Live Mail. And I know many people who switched to TB when they got Windows 7, simply because they found Live Mail too confusing.
