36v Linear Actuator question.

Good evening all.

We have a floor scrubber (ride on) at work that i'm repairing and i'm stuck on the overtravel limit switches on the actuator.

Let me elaborate:

Some bright spark picked the machine up at the rear with a fork lift .. god ever knows why. He bent the actuator arm, the external limit switch bar which passes through two micro switches and vrious other things.

I've repaired the wiring to the motor which had burned, straightened the bar which runs through the overtravel limit switches, replaced one of the limit switches which was damaged and failed to stop the linear actuator motor spinning after retracting and caused the wiring problems.

The problem is, is that i cannot get my head around how the limit switches work/ are set up. There is a diode across the terminals. The switch furthest away from the DC motor/gearbox has an arm which is moved by the bar but appears to be closed circuit permanently as the bar is never in a position not touch the arm and is in wired to the normally open contacts of the switch. The other which is nearer to the DC motor/gearbox also has a diode across the switch terminals and was wired in the normally closed postion. The polarity is changed by the control module on the board.

Thje idea being that you get on the floor scrubber and when selecting the vacuum on the control dash, the actuator lowers the rear rubber squeegy assembly. When you reverse, it reverses the polarity and raises the rubber squeegy. Turning offthe vacuum will also raise the squeegy.

Hope this kind of makes sense. The vehicle is a 'Metro' floor scrubber machine.
