no you either buy an lcd tv or a plasma

An LED TV is an LCD dsplay that uses Light Emitting Diodes as the backlight instead of Cold Cathode Fluorescent Gas Discharge lamps.

The LED backlight is more efficient. Part of the gain comes from the higher intrinsic efficieny of LED over the tubes and partly because the brightness of the LEDs output can be rapidly changed allowing darker scenes to be illuminated with lower backlighting.

LED is the superior technology.
