Can anyone please tell me - in simple language - how to print labels for my Christmas cards. Apparently I need "mail merge" but I do not know how !!!!!!!!!! Do I need to type my names and addresses in a list first ??

Go to 'Tools' then click letters and mailings, then enveleopes and labels. in the box that pops up click options to select the labels you are using, click ok. Then back in the first box click new document, then enter your addresses in the labels on the page.

If it's just a one off then no need to use mail merge as you can just type the addresses directly onto the label template. to do this you will need Microsoft word and also say what version of word you have because they are all different.

I want to save them so that I can use them again. and sorry for being thick but how do I know what version of Word I have.
click on the help menu and select about word

Right, I have Microsoft word 2002
Put all addresses on Word page & print out on A4 self-adhesive paper, cut & stick to envelope.

Paper advert above this thread, euroffice.

Right I have got as far as measuring my labels and creating the correct size but then you say back in first box click new document, sorry but I cannot seem to find where to do this !
If they are purchased labels then there will almost certainly be a pre-set template available for them already.

If it's not a listed template then most labels are based on one of the avery label templates and you just have to find the one that matches your labels.

what are the size of the labels and how many to a sheet (I assume they are A4 sheets too?)
Question Author
I have got a new document but cannot seem to get the template of labels on it !!

Labels are 3 across and 7 down, have got the size OK but how do I get the template onto my word sheet so that I know where to type ?
It really is easier to use one of the pre-defined templates.

what size are the labels?
Though that said the only option for 3 x 7 labels on a sheet seems to be the L7160

On the label window select options, then from the label vendor drop down menu select avery a4/a5 and then from the list of label formats choose L7160, click on OK and then on new document.
