I have a one page simple website that I've tried for 3 months to get onto Google listing. I have read all (I think) the info Google offers, how it crawls the web, etc but still the wretched site is not showing. Is this because it is so small - one page - or is it possible I'm missing something from within the site? I am not expert at this and any advice would be appreciated. I can see the site if I type in the full web address so it has uploaded ok. Two other sites -much bigger - that I have done are listed with no problems - but I'm getting worried about this little site!

I really don't think it is the size of the site that matters.

Presuming you don't want to pay Google zillions of dollars for top listing, try getting essential words pertaining to the site in the beginning of the script BODY. If this is not possible or would be out of place, try this...

Once you've set the formation of the BODY insert the keywords in the same colour as the background in small font. This will not be visible on the page but will be the first text that a search engine will pick up. Search with the 'keywords' on as many different computers as possible. The words should be as unique as possible and of course be pertaining to your particular product/interest of the site.

To get listed in the first ten depends on the 'keywords' and may take a very long time, if ever.

Putting proper keywords in the HEAD is pretty much useless nowadays.
Further to Wildwood's post:
Google's web crawlers are looking for links from popular sites to newly-created sites. For example, if you've just created a website dedicated to your collection of porcelain thimbles, you should contact the site owners of every thimble-collecting website you can find (giving priority to those which are high up in Google's existing rankings) to ask if they'll link to your new site (and, of course, offering a reciprocal link). Also join every thimble-collecting forum you can find and submit a post to announce your new site. (The more links there are to your site, the better are your chances of getting it moved up Google's rankings).
