how can i take my computer out of sleep mode?

I have a dell dimension desk top which i cannot take out of sleep mode. I have tried moving the mouse, pressing the keyboard, switching it off and on, disconnecting everything except the monitor and continually pressinf f8 when switching it back on. Nothing seems to work. When i press a button on the monitor it tells me that to move the mouse or hit a key. Can anybody help?

It's not in sleep mode, you have another problem. check the monitor leads first

if that doesn't help, when you disconnect the power, then reconnect it and press the power buttton what exactly happens (noises, lights etc etc)

There isn't reaction when i reconnect other than the power light just flashing orange
