Help! I switched on my Compaq lap top this morning and nothing happened. Has the virus malwar crashed by computer? It is not the battery nor the power lead.

A virus won't make the computer do "nothing" when you turn it on.

Is it really doing nothing? as in no lights at all, nothing on the screen at all?

Can you see any indication that power is going into your laptop? Usually there is either a light or visual indication on a panel. Are there noises to indicate the laptop is starting up when you press the power on button? Ensure the lead is connected properly.

If no to all of the above, check the power lead fuse.
If you've definately got power in the lead (You'll need to use another laptop or a volt-meter - don't try your tongue for a laptop power supply!)

Then the usual suspects are the power supply or overheating - filters clogged with dust .

Do you use it in bed? - that's a common one - bedding obstructing the air flow

Almost certainly a hardware issue
