Hi

I am without a tv for the next two months and wondering if it is possible to connect a topfield (toppy) recorder to my laptop and use it as a monitor to view the shows stored on the toppy. There are many connectors on the toppy but is it reasonalbe to expect it to output to a laptop instead of a convenional scart equiped tv.

I do know that the toppy records data in a .rec file format as when I first got it i tried to back up the data onto a computer and struggled to find a decoder to read the files but this time I just want to know if the topfield will be able to use the monitor on a computer or laptop so I can watch the shows in the absence of a telly.

Sad but true i am that addicted to telly please help if you can !

No (unless you have TV capture built into the laptop, which is very very unlikely)

But if you have a half way decent internet connection you can watch pretty much all the freeview channels over the internet.

(you need to register, but it's free)

Thank you, as I expected highly unlikely but not impossible, I will keep on thinking it through.

cheers for your time
I thought Topfield's could be connected to PC's/laptops via its USB port, and there was a downloadable TAP (= Topfield Application Program) for use with Windows and MACs, which enabled viewing of recorded programs.

I may be wrong, though, since I don't own one - just seem to remember reading it somewhere.
so it will sputnik, I stand corrected.

that is a rare, and very useful feature.
