I have a dell inspiron 9400 and a while back the sound from my actual laptop speakers cut out completely, but when speakers (or headphones) are put in then there is sound... only out of one speaker though. Now i know its not a physical thing like a wire loose (at least i dont think so) as the other day both speakers were working and I was amazed but then it went back to normal, anyone have any ideas and not one that includes paying to get it sorted haha cheers

have you cheked your sound settings?

the control panel should show a number of sources ... and some of them have different fees ... so the vol can be on ful ... but CDs are muted (get the idea?)
Also check that the sound levels are the same for both speakers - even if they appear balanced, sometimes just altering one side then returning it to its previous position sorts it out. I am sure you have tried simply taking the cable(s) out and putting them back in as well, but if not.... Also, check that one speaker is not muted.

Yes I have checked, nothings changed. it must be a fault because when I wiggle the jack sometime both speakers come on but if i kept it where both are on then I'd ended bending the headphone jack

...and it does it with anything I stick in there, speakers, headphones etc. so its not the periphals
only one common point ....
if sound is a must ... get a USB doofer
