How about www.emusic.com . There's 50 free tracks for a start & you can cancel the account after downloading these if you wish . It's legal but a lot of well known artists/labels aren't on there as the site doesn't pay as high royalties as itunes . Can't remember off hand how much the charges are after the free offer is done .
iTunes works very well, but I'd stick with the iTunes plus songs.

Failing that, use btjunkie.com or thepiratebay.org, and a torrent client like uTorrent. (Illegal.)
gonna give you a couple of site's .dc++ download and install takes a bit of doing but worth it ,the other is this but you need to reg, but a excellent site
http://www.warez-bb.org/index.php .... good luck with both.
Have had some good luck with:

jamglue.com

Single tracks only, downloaded to Windows media player.

cheers guys i,m looking at em all
DO NOT go to warez.com it's full of viruses and nasties go to www.imesh.com it's free, and it's spyware safe, in other words you won't get virused up every time you download a song. Or you could try frostwire.com it's quite similar to limewire.com
