mouse instalation problem

hello all.i have windows xp home edition and i am trying to install a mouse.on plugging the mouse in it says found new hardware then it opens instalation wizard and it stops saying it needs: hidusb.sys file from windows xp cd rom.what is this? how do i solve the problem ? im really stuck here and not the worlds best on computers !! any help would be great.thankyou

just give it what it's asking for ... the xp disc
you should have been given this (and probably a few others) when you bought the machine.

alternatively if you just got a recovery disc ... look for
c:\windows\options\
or a folder called i386
which may contain the files you need.

if no joy
look for an option in the start menu to create an windows disc (or something like it) and create the disc (you'll need a blank cd or DVD)
