my laptop mouse pad just stopped working, tried everything to sort it out

generally speaking if you go to control panel | system | hardware | device manager
find the entry for the touchpad ... and delete it

then action | rescan hardware
the machine will re-detect the pad ... reboot the machine ... and you should be ok

however ... if the lappy is an acre ... try fn + f7 which switches the pad off on some models

On my Acer FN with F7 turns it on and off.

You may have a similar thing on yours.
If you cannot fix the pad, buy a mini usb mouse for the laptop. These work very well and I think they give better more natural control than a touch pad.
