I assume that the file is is a folder. If so, the easiest thing is to make a copy of that folder, without the 'ghost' file and then delete the original folder.

For example, if the file is in My Documents\LettersToBank, go to My Documents and create a new folder called LettersToBank2. Now open both folders, so that they can be viewed side by side. Copy all of the files from the original folder to the new one. Return to My Documents and delete the old folder. If required, rename the new one.

PS: Obviously, when I wrote 'copy all of the files', I meant except the ghost one!

The file is at first impression not in Documents. But if I search for it i can find it in the documents folder. Tried the idea of moving all files (except the problem one) to a new folder. I then deleted the Documents folder and set a new one up. I then put the files back in the new folder - but I can still find this file but not delete it or move it or anything.
It may be that is in use so therefore cannot be deleted.
